The main item at our November meeting was to commence work on researching the various shops and small businesses that were recorded in the census from 1841 – 1901.(The picture with this article shows the shop that was at Gill Top. The lady cycled from Keighley daily!) The resources used for this study are the typed out census records left to us by the late Dennis Harker, Moonraker member and local historian. This will be compared with the illustrated list from the 1930’s left to us by the late David Hoyle, also a former member and local historian. He was involved in the compilation of the 1980 book ‘Cowling a Moorland Parish’, which is always our first resource when commencing a new topic of research.
On the 20th of the month Moonrakers were due to give a talk to Cowling Companions and on the 28th the much postponed visit to Bradford Industrial Museum hopefully went ahead.
